Back to her old tricks - Kelly Khumalo

I guess I was spot on in my previous blog when I said that some celebrities see themselves as being better and more important than other people. So, the Drum Beat concert took place on the 16th and 17th August 2013, at the Soweto Theatre. The likes of Thandizwa  Mazwai, Zonke, Donald, Sindi Nene, Moneoa were among some of the talented South African singers that took to the stage. Now everything went well at the event but then again is there any event that takes place without some drama or temper tantrums? No, I don’t think so.
Kelly Khumalo, the controversial singer was up to her tricks AGAIN. When she arrived at the Drum Beat Concert she insisted that she should be treated like a VIIP – Very Important Important Person. The SAMA (South African Music Awards) winner arrived in her Hummer to find a queue at the entrance. She immediately demanded special treatment, insisting she should be allowed to park inside the venue. When she was instructed by the people manning the gate to park in the VIP section where all other VIP guests had parked, she started swearing at them asking the guards what they took her for. “Do you expect me to park my car in that dark parking lot?” she proclaimed.

It looks like she will never learn. Her reality show “Rolling with Kelly” that was aired a few months ago was supposed to be about her changing her ways and trying to be a better person but it does not look like she has changed one bit. She is still the same diva she has always been. In my eyes, Kelly Khumalo is just a PR disaster waiting to happen – always attracting bad publicity…

Celebville Habits

Is it a norm or habit for some celebrities to behave like hooligans? Well, that is the question on my mind as I am writing this blog. Some celebrities seem to think that they are high and mighty until something tints their image, then they become humble. Some of them see themselves as being untouchable. The likes of Kelly Khumalo, who rose into stardom after her hit track ‘Qinisela’, and then of course, her alleging to be a virgin and even writing a song about it.

At the feather awards that took place on the 7th of November 2012, Kelly Khumalo put on a stunning performance and then afterwards, came the drama. She had a little too much to drink that evening and so she caused a scene when two unknown women took pictures of her. Kelly who then shouted at the two ladies using vulgar words and then proceeded to threaten to destroy their camera if they did not delete the pictures immediately.
During all that commotion, an unknown guy who is said to be a ‘friend’ arrived and grabbed her and dragged her towards the car. But Kelly refused to get in the car, her sister Zandi also tried fruitlessly to convince her to leave the two ladies alone and get into the car. Then the man picked her up like a sack of potatoes and bundled her into her car. http://www.sundayworld.co.za/news/2012/11/12/drunk-kelly-assails-fans

Now you as a publicist or in this case a manager, how are you supposed to deal with such actions? Because you are in fact the one who must clean up the mess by making sure that Kelly has a clean image so that she can be a positive role model for young girls. My question is, how do you go about dealing with such a person, after all…you are the one responsible for her image!
